  • I ve noticed a trend in myself Urban Fantasies, in general, require a bit of time and investment in order to start really liking them I suppose this might be very commonplace, but at least for me, it s like there s a period of adjustment before I really start loving the characters and situations. It s not a complaint It s just an observation Kara Gillian, detective and demon summoner, is starting to get under my skin I liked this book than the first two, but as I said, it s probably because it f [...]

  • Yes, I really did just read all 3 books in this series in a row Yes, they were all amazing Yes, I am now going absolutely crazy because I have to wait until JANUARY for the next book I don t know why I do these things to myself As I stated above, Secrets of the Demon this is the third installment in the fabulousness called the Kara Gillian series I would not recommend reading this review if you have not read books 1 and 2 Unless you don t plan on reading this series, which is the silliest thing [...]

  • Another amazing book to this series, we have finally reached five stars It s one of those where the books keep getting better It s a strange trend in Urban Fantasy with me this year almost every series, the third really starts blowing me away The mystery plot is brilliant the author certainly has an incredible imagination to be able to come up with so many story lines that are different, have nothing to do with the other books story lines, and are always as interesting as the others This one was [...]

  • I usually don t do reviews for books that are later in the series BUT I m going to make a plea to a particular group of readers 1 If you enjoyed book 1 but didn t think it was the greatest OR2 If you enjoyed book 1 and 2 but found youself slightly boredTHENYou must continue with the series and try book 3 Book 3 was so much better than book 1 and 2 I LOVED it I seriously wasn t even going to continue with the series I m pretty hard on series books I want each book to be a complete book and not ju [...]

  • Demon Summoning Has Less Vomiting Beaulac, Louisiana homicide detective Kara Gillian is in New Orleans, working a case with the multi jurisdictional task force she s recently joined with FBI Special Agents Ryan Kristoff and Zachary Garner The task force deals with white collar and financial crimes known as crimes having a supernatural or paranormal element The lead singer of the Goth rock band Ether Madhouse has been receiving threats that a demon is intent on eating her soul during her last con [...]

  • First of all, YES I like this cover It s really REALLY good It doesn t make me embarrassed to pick up this book even though I read these on ebook so it s irrelevant But it makes me proud of the genre for sure.Anyhoo this was a good book, another fine installment in a really fine series I do have to say I m MUCH interested in what s going on with all the demon intrigue rather than the cop stuff which I read MUCH quicker, but it tied in nicely and HOLY HELL CLIFFHANGER MUCH Ryan just got interes [...]

  • 4.5 stars, I just love this series My favorite thing is that Kara is both a real woman and very firmly the hero of these books She s a regular woman, not a superhero, she s vulnerable, gets her feelings hurt, gets frightened, eats comfort food, has a temper, is just totally real And she doesn t turn to anyone to solve her problems So many fantasy books, especially those with hot demons, have the heroine forced into letting the demon solve everything for her, and then she gets to be grateful to h [...]

  • Diana Rowland has become one of my most favored authors to read After reading three consecutive books in a row that kept me hooked throughout each one and all having endings that had me whispering to myself Oh, sh t I need while scrambling to find out about the next book, yeah I d say this is a most favorite series, bar none.Secrets of the Demon was made into a page turner from the pace set by the mystery surrounding the case Kara is investigating surrounding several murders The romance takes a [...]

  • I loved the ending of this book The journey is pretty good too But I feel like this is one of those stories that builds and builds It drops great little breadcrumbs along the way Then boom It drops a great old bomb on you at the end that makes you want to toss your real life onto the back burner, so you can pick up the next installment If you are thinking about jumping into this series, by the way, do yourself a favor and start at the beginning You could enjoy this book as a standalone, but the [...]

  • Best Installment Yet.I can honestly say, this series is than freshing, and always on my top list I really enjoyed both Mark of the Demon and Blood of the Demon , but I have to say, I loved Secrets of the Demon If you haven t read the first to novels in this series, then I suggust you do before reading this novel You ll get quite lost with the characters actions and backgrounds, not to mention to tension between some characters Even if it was a stand alone novel, I d recommend you read them all, [...]

  • 3.5 StarsI put off reading this book because I just wasn t very interested, but when I finally did pick it up, I devoured it in less than two days It was fast paced, fun, and exciting an enjoyable read Some of the mysteries surrounding Zach and Ryan finally get cleared up, and even though I called the final bombshell long before it dropped, one of the revelations did manage to surprise me As with the previous books, the answers you get only raise questions, stringing you along just enough to ma [...]

  • This series just keeps getting better and better It s not only the current mystery Kara and her new FBI task force are rushing to solve to stop deaths it has so many twist and turns, you can t even begin to guess who the bad guys are You think you know, but it just blows you away, when they are revealed at the end Oh no, that s not the best part about this series It s the underlying backstory that s going on with Kara, Ryan, and the Demon Lord What is Ryan, and will he and Kara just PLEASE hurr [...]

  • Police Procedural Lacking as Demon World Expands3.5 Stars The police procedural aspect of this book was lacking, but the overall book scored as the demon world of Kara Gillian expanded In this installment the a rock star is in danger, but I could have cared less about the how and the why I got Kara and her gang as the urban fantasy world expanded There was a lot of talking about the music business, which for me could have been cut but the urban fantasy was spot on as the nature of demons was exp [...]

  • Kara Gillian is a homicide detective who can sense the Arcane and summon demons Each book has a stand alone murder case with paranormal elements Slightly darker UF than most but it s a believable world and you can t help but feel for Kara The paranormal isn t a widely known fact so she has grown up keeping her distance from people on the whole due to her weirdness As each book progresses we get to see insight into her and the circumstances that make her who she is I m full of questions and need [...]

  • Guys that are mid twenties but act like they are still in their teens are such a fucking turn off Yes, I am looking at you, Ryan.

  • I guess I shouldn t have wait this long to continue this series I didn t care for story or the characters Lose my interest completely.

  • I love and hate this book at the same time I m torn between 4 and 2 stars You may think, How the heck can I get confuse with 2 or 4 stars Huh If I knew that then I wouldn t be confused now would I For the sake of my own sanity, Let s try the column A, column B method. In A corner is the reason for giving it 4 stars At the top of the list is the unknown reason of the confusion How many books can make you feel so conflicted It doesn t matter that the reason is unknown but the very fact that this bo [...]

  • Note First of all, YES, I am reading this out of order thanks to my stupid arsehead library making idiotic choices in what books they ordered first Second, I think I found another female heroine I can actually grow to enjoy Kara Gillian is definitely one to watch She has a funny attitude, while being really good at her job Unfortunately, however, it appears those around her have some serious secrets they are trying to keep to themselves, and you would think that after 3 books, most of these secr [...]

  • Review originally published at Book Lovers Inc So, it s official this series just keeps getting better and better Secrets of the Demon continues to build upon the first two books of the Kara Gillian series Mark of the Demon and Blood of the Demon following in the same tradition of combining police procedural with paranormal intrigue and a dash of romance.Though a direct second sequel, this book is can function well enough as a standalone title, no easy task to carry out Relevant background infor [...]

  • Kara and the rest of her task force are given a job to guard a band because they have received demonic threats, or so they claim Kara doesn t think the threat is real, so imagine her surprise when something does snatch the lead singer off the stage It isn t a demon, but it reeks of the Arcane When a string of murders pop up that have that same Arcane reek, she knows she has to get to the bottom of Meanwhile, Kara is still bound to the Demonic Lord, Rhyzkahl, and she must keep up her end of the b [...]

  • Review courtesy of All Things Urban FantasyWith each book I read in Diana Rowland s Kara Gillian Demon Summoner urban fantasy series, I am and amazed that it is not one of the BIG NAME series in the genre It s got phenomenal world building, a tough yet venerable heroine, a captivating love triangle, and a increasingly compelling metanarrative that just gets juicier with each book.In the previous two books see my reviews below a number of delicious details were dropped about the Demonic Lord Rh [...]

  • I love this series I was disappointed at first that the style of the cover art changed I thought it was beautiful before but it doesn t matter This book was well worth the torturous year long wait I don t know if I can hold out for the next one, though This book exceeded my expectations by leaps and bounds Rhyzkahl had many layers added to him, as did Zack oh man, Zack and Ryan can he be who I think he is Eilahn is a great new addition as well I liked her a lot, though I was disappointed that Ke [...]

  • I loved this book My only complaint is that it was too short Happily, there are two coming outybe even this year The bad guy reveal was unexpected, and I am pleased with how Michael ends up The Ryan reveal was also unexpected Overall, nice pacing although the plot was a tad too prosaic.

  • My first Diana Rowland bookd I thoroughly enjoyed it I found it interesting to see how another author handled the police procedural meets the supernatural approach Rowland s own police background definitely shines through, adding a wonderful realism to the world she has created And that ending I will most definitely be adding of her books to my TBR list.

  • Decided not to continue with this series Apparently the view spoiler bed hopping and love triangleleading to a love quadruplentinues hide spoiler Though definitely an UF and not technically romanceI still have my limits to what I can accept review show

  • Wow Just wow Seriously. The mysteries remain solid I m one of those people who can usually see the reveal coming a mile away, but Rowland keeps me guessing and the characters love them. And the overall story she just kicked it up a notch, and I m so excited
