  • Fifth in the Love Comes Softly series about a family in the pioneer days in the USA In this book, Marty and Clark return from their long visit out west to see Missie and family, after a terrible accident that left Clark with only one leg Marty takes a long time to recover from the journey, prompting her family to worry about her Meanwhile, their son Clare and his wife Kate anticipate the birth of their first baby, and their youngest son Luke prepares to leave for medical college Only Ellie is le [...]

  • I enjoyed this story It chronicles the life of a growing family and has a small amount of romance The story is clean, easy to read, and touching My only complaint would be that some of the problems are overcome too easily I love that the book talks about relying on God, but even when you are able to rely on Him and accept that your trials are for your good, there is heartache and struggle Nandry in particular struggles for so long, then is able to completely accept everything after one conversat [...]

  • This is probably my favorite in series, because this book is about Clark, Marty and their children that are still at home When I was reading the books that were about other family members, I found myself wondering, What is happening at Clark and Marty s house Not that I didn t like the other books, I just missed reading about Clark and Marty I love how Clark and Marty are so in love, because at first, Marty didn t even talk to Clark I LOVE the movies, but I LOVE the books .

  • Marty and Clark Davis returned home after having been gone for a year The had been to visit Missie and Willie Clark had an accident which caused him to lose a leg They were met in town by their extended family and had dinner at the hotel They returned home after dark and Marty s exploration of home had to wait until the next morning She seemed very tired lately and wondered that the trip had worn her out so much She went to visit Clare and Kate who had moved into the old house to see what change [...]

  • Book 5 in the Love Comes Softly series Marty and Clark has just returned home from their long stay out west with Missie A few surprises are in store for everyone Including births, unexpected deaths, marriages, kids leaving home and someone receiving quite an inheritance The moral of the story is that the best gift you can leave your kids is good values It was neat to learn about some of the other family members I truly love Ellie and Lane

  • Clark and Marty are back home and the family is adjusting to Clark s handicap He doesn t let it slow him down and rigs up all sorts of harnesses for his farm equipment Clare and Kate are married and Arnie gets married to a girl named Anne Luke is off in the city learning to be a doctor The LaHayes go out to visit Willie and Missie and someone comes to stay and care for their farm Lane, Willie s ranch hand Lane spends a good amount of time with the Davis family and falls in love with Ellie She lo [...]

  • Nostalgia Book I read this series as a girl and I enjoyed following Clark and Marty s family as they change, grow, marry, and have children of their own This book is the same As Ellie finds love of her own and as she is leaving the nest, God finds a way to heal Marty s hurting heart Again this book is full of faith and christian principles The family is relentlessly upbeat due to their faith so it could be a very encouraging story for the reader.

  • Great examplesThe characters in this series are all great examples of the legacy I would want to leave my family Thank you for sharing them

  • I loved this book I honestly fell in love with the characters even They seemed like old friends Beautiful story you need to read.

  • What a wonderful ending to a wonderful book One thing that I am really enjoying about the Love Comes Softly series is they re a lot spiritual then the newer Christian fiction I m glad Janette is not afraid to write boldly about her faith I miss that in a lot of books today Faith wise this is one of the best series I ve read. The rest of the stuff in there is great too the romance, the action, the community, the over all plot, characters, and setting Janette Oke is a very talented author.I believ [...]

  • Strike 2 for this author If the sixth book is as bland and preachy as this, I won t be able to finish the series, which is such a shame because her Canadian West series is fantastic I m so disappointed that this series isn t matching that, especially since this one had so much potential There are two main plots in this book The first is the rest of the family now needs to adjust to Clark s injury The second is Marty is pregnant again, but she s having doubts First with Clark I ranted in my revie [...]

  • Clark and Marty return from their western visit to a family where life has gone on and many changes taken place Clae and Joe have taken their little girl back east Nandry s family continues to grow Clare is married and settled with his Kate, excitedly awaiting their first child Arnie is courting, Luke is getting ready to head off to medical school and Ellie isn t a little girl any So when Marty discovers she might be bringing a new life into the world she is embarrassed and upset Can she ever lo [...]

  • I m going through and re reading the whole series In 2012 I only read 6 8 of the books My goal is to read all 8 this year I really like the pacing of this book In many of the books I feel like you miss big chunks of time especially 2 which covered than a decade and would skip years at a time This one covers a year and doesn t skip large chunks of time SPOLIER I really appreciate the honesty Marty had with regards to pregnancy It s not always easy having a surprise baby One thing that kind of su [...]

  • 4 starThis is book 5 in the Love Comes Softly series And although there are books in this series this technically is the last that follow Marty and Clark closely The next few books follow their youngest children Belinda and Luke So technically the series could have ended here But it didn t and the next books are nice to read too. This book does contain situations about miscarriage, and stillbirth, engagement and a wedding So if someone has recently lost a baby this might bring you to understand [...]

  • Thoughts on the entire series.Yes, I ve switched to put the editions from the 80s on my Read shelf, since those are the ones I read and own, and I m partial to the stories in all of their old fashionedness, before the updated covers and later book edits that have gone into newer editions I didn t read all of these in large print, but the cover art is the same The first book, Love Comes Softly, was the first I ever read by Oke, my introduction into her sweet, warm, and simplistic style of storyte [...]

  • i read these books a long time ago and i ve been rereading them lately this is the fifth in a series i really enjoy them they take place in the old west they do get cheesy at times but for the most part, they re cute they are Christian books and in this particular story, there is a lot about trusting God through the hard times also, the main character, marty, deals with a bit of empty nest syndrome as most of her children move away these books don t have a lot of action but i ve always enjoyed h [...]

  • This is the fifth of the Love Comes Softly series Clark recovers from his amputation and he and Marty return home He has adjusted well, though he is on crutches, but still full of optimism and hope The two return home to find life moving along, Clare and Kate awaiting their baby, Luke goes east to medical school, and their children growing up Their stepdaughter Nandry is the most affected by Clark s injury, whom she regarded as her only father, after her own father was generally useless Clark an [...]

  • I read this book to my wife it s one of the few things that we can do together It is another Janette Oke book It centers upon Clark and Marty after they return home from a visit with their oldest daughter, Missie and her husband Willie out west Marty discovers that she is pregnant and that, along with the romance of their youngest daughter, Ellie, becomes the underlying theme for the remainder of the book This was book 5 of the series and because of the final chapter, It seemed that this was pla [...]

  • I love these books As a Christian, I long for fictional books that push love, forgiveness, joy, and Christian service In a day and age when Christianity means different things to different people, it is wonderful to see traditional, spiritually correct views on relationships, church policies, and morals At the end of this book, there is a conversation between a pastor and a church member about church discipline The characters prayed together and talked extensively about how God would have them d [...]

  • This book begins when Marty and Clark are returning from the west Ellie and the boys have taken care of the farm while Marty and Clark were gone, and Ellie has grown up to be able to take care of things by herself. This book particularly focuses on Ellie and what she wants and is going to do with her life now that Ma and Pa are back There are marriages and babies throughout, as in most of these stories now I liked this book than the previous books at times It seemed to have interesting plot lin [...]

  • I really liked this one I felt that the series was getting a little sappy towards the end, but this book picked it up quite a bit Ellie is an awesome girl She s not the usual, prissy, girlish, lovey dovey heroine that most romance novels have She s a great girl She s funny, gracious, sweet, and very real But she s tough, too And I liked Lane almost as much as Willie I wish the movies were accurate to the books Because I sure enjoy the books

  • This volume focuses on Ellie and Lane, how they meet, fall in love and marry The element of faith is seen throughout without being preachy For that reason, I liked it better than volume four This could have been a good ending point The family progresses on all fronts and everyone ends this book in a happy state However, the next book jumps forward several years to cover family adventure.
