  • FOUR STARS With a smidgen of optimism, I finally decided on a 4 star rating for LET ME LIE But, in all fairness of honest disclosure, at certain points in the book I felt the dreaded THREE STAR rating looming in the distance. My queen of plot twists, Clare Mackintosh, does not disappoint in the department of surprise She rules the world of shocking revelations Where her second novel I See You crossed the line of believability, this new novel only briefly straddles the line Cross that line than o [...]

  • Clare Mackintosh and I have a very interesting relationship I have strong opinions about her novelsd she has no idea who I am When I started reviewing thrillers, one of the first big stories I reviewed was I See You, and it just wasn t my favorite story I do know that the author spent over a decade on the police force and it has become some sort of a muse for her widely popular thriller novels When I received my advanced copy of Let Me Lie from Berkley thank you , I wanted to give Ms Mackintosh [...]

  • Copy furnished by Net Galley for the price of a review.Truth be told, Let Me Lie didn t do much for me As psychological thrillers go, this was tepid to the point of going cold Doubly disappointing as I thoroughly enjoyed the author s first novel, I Let You Go Mistakes are made, accidents happen, lies are told So many lies, it becomes exhausting A new mom is still mourning the suicide of her father A few months later, her mother follows suit Questions remain The writing was fine, the best thing i [...]

  • 2.5 stars rounded downFirst off I want to mention that I absolutely loved I LET YOU GO and was absolutely WOWED by that book and subsequently will read anything that CLARE MACKINTOSH writes Even though this one didn t quite work out for me I will still read future books by this author If I am rating this solely on my review rating system this book gets no than 2.5 stars from me which I have decided to round down It was just okay and for the most part it wasn t an enjoyable read for me For all o [...]

  • Clare Mackintosh is a brilliant writer If she writes it, I will read it I hate to compare author s novels to each other and not take them as original works, but I struggled with that in this case I Let You Go was an amazing book it ripped out my heart and brought me to tears Bit dramatic Yes But true This one unfortunately didn t pan out how I was hoping This will be an exciting, twisty thriller to some, but for someone who reads a lot of this genre, I found it to be a bit predictable There are [...]

  • This was my first book by this author although I own I Let You Go, a book I ve heard wonderful things about and plan to read soon I really enjoyed the beginning of this one and was very invested in the characters and the writing I had enormous sympathy for Anna who lost both her parents to suicide within a year When there are clues that perhaps her parent s deaths were not suicide, Detective Murray is brought in and re opens the investigation He was a welcome addition to the story, and ended up [...]

  • FULL REVIEW WILL BE ON MARCH 14, 2018 LET ME LIE has GREAT twists and is another Clare Mackintosh book you won t want to miss You won t see it coming and ask yourself how you missed it.The tension at the end makes this one her best yet 5 5This book was given to me free of charge by the publisher and NetGalley in return for an honest review.

  • 3 somewhat tremulous starsImagine losing your father to suicide and then months later, your mother follows with her own suicide in the same place your father chose to end his life For Anna Johnson, this was her reality Trying to cope with this plus the demands of being a new mother having had a baby with her boyfriend is difficult However, after receiving cryptic notes in the mail Anna begins to question if perhaps these suicide were , that being murder The story continues throwing in many twis [...]

  • Big disappoint for me, especially after my first experience with this author I Let You Go was an easy 5 stars.I found the protagonist annoying, the plot unrealistic, and the pace so slow I found myself skimming through chapters trying to find the high points Even the ending couldn t save this one for me.Others have responded positively than I, so don let this review scare you off I still have faith that my next venture with this author will have me singing her praises again ARC provided by NetG [...]

  • I read Ms Mackintosh s book I Let You Go and enjoyed it I was looking forward to another great read in Let Me Lie Although some reviewers seem to be disappointed in this book I liked it Here s why The story is told from multiple points of view which is always interesting and since one of the narrators is not identified I found it that much enticing. The writing is very good It flowed well and kept me reading It had plenty of twists and lots of lies, lots and lots of lies The main character, Anna [...]

  • I feel really bad I loved this authors first book and was very fond of her 2nd but I have so many problems with this one not to do with the writing obviously she can write and not even with the addictive quality it s not like I threw it aside, I wanted to know what happened but I found the plot and execution disappointing considering it came from such an obviously talented author so rather than my rating reflecting the writing quality this is ALL about everything else There are so many generic t [...]

  • It s no secret that I am a huge fan of Clare Mackintosh s debut book I Let You Go and even now, years after reading it still think OMG what a twist, so you can imagine my delight to receive an early copy of her 3rd standalone psychological thriller Let Me Lie from her publishers.Let Me Lie is a very twisty, twisted and dark thriller which had me gripped from the first page to the last The main character Anna Johnson is struggling to cope with the double suicide of her parents a year ago, a new b [...]

  • I have read some emotionally driven thrillers in the past, but boy oh boy what the heat on in this one.I am definitely not going to go into this complex and cleverly written thriller. You need to go in blind with this one and enjoy the dynamics of this great book.About 3 4 of the way in you may think, nothing is happening, its like having your camera pointing at something that is times to come near and you want to snap it before you miss it, this was the case in this book, you are poised, waiting [...]

  • 3.5 stars.A year after her mother and father have both committed suicide, first her father, then her mother, both jumping off the same spot into high tide, Anna is still reeling over how much she misses them and how her life has changed On the anniversary of her mother s death, she receives an anonymous note making her think perhaps her parents were murdered, and then mysterious warnings that maybe she herself is in danger She solicits help from the local police, a retiree who should just pass i [...]

  • Find my full review here crimebythebook blog 2018 1This is a lighter suspense offering from Mackintosh it doesn t have the same jaw dropping twist of I LET YOU GO or the standard psychological thriller pacing of I SEE YOU, but it will work well for readers who want a story of interpersonal drama family secrets Expectations will be key with this book since it is quite different from her previous two It s my least favorite of her books so far, but I still enjoyed it

  • Awesome read with many twists I love to hunker down with a good police drama and mystery thriller I have been lucky to read one of this authors works prior to this new release so I was excited to dive into this story. It s funny how involved I get into a book when it is written well and the story flows This book seemed slow to start as the author winds you up and walks you into the subtle nuances of issues, crimes, weirdness that starts in the characters lives You look back and realize that the a [...]

  • You never know what goes on behind closed doors.Having loved both the author s last two books, I Let You Go and I See You, Let Me Lie was one of my most anticipated new releases of 2018, and boy oh boy, this woman can write I m not sure how she does it, but Mackintosh has a way of drawing you deeper and deeper into the story until it is impossible to get the characters out of your head This is a difficult review to write, since so much of the story s impact relies on diving in blindly and lettin [...]

  • Well, I loved this book I love Clare Mackintosh s writing and thoroughly enjoyed the complex plot here with it s many twists and turns A predictable read is such a drag, so I adore being pulled off into different avenues of thought and Mackintosh achieves it with aplomb here I was veering all over the place trying to decide what had happened and who was responsible for what and ended up not being right about any of it Both of Anna s parents committed suicide Trying to get on with her life with p [...]

  • Let Me Lie Written by Clare Mackintosh As a person who frequents charity shops, thrift stores, library sales, and many independent book stores, I ve come across Clare Mackintosh s name many times I ve looked at her books on shelves, considered many times When I was offered the chance to read her newest book as an advanced reader s copy, I was very thrilled Let Me Lie is a very complex plot, but it begins when a new mother, Anna Johnson, receives mail that seems to insinuate her late parents were [...]

  • LOTS of twists and turns in this one and by the time I finished I felt like I had ridden a roller coaster And that last sentence Hooboy Thanks to the publisher for the advance digital reading copy.

  • 2.5 I won this book from a good reads give a way First let me say like most everyone else has I Let You Gowas an amazing read I was very disappointed in this read there were numerous twists in this book and everything to me was very much predictable Most of the time I was skimming just to get to the next chapter which is a bad sign Hopefully, her next book will live up to I Let You Go.

  • Beware the liesis psychological thriller has many twists and turns as it reaches an incredibly surprising conclusion Anna Johnson, with her weeks old baby Ella, is very sad she can t get over the fact that both her parents committed suicide and left her alone Her partner, Mark, is supportive, but he never met her mom and dad so he doesn t really understand her emotional turmoil When Anna receives a card that indicates that perhaps it was not suicide, she contacts the police A nearly retired civi [...]

  • I really didn t like this book It seems like the whole structure is built to surprise the reader As if it s written just for the sake of the twists and nothing else matters Also the first part of the book is a real drag the story develops rather slowly OK, I get it, it might seem a good idea to shock the reader But when all is revealed the plot is so unrealistic and silly, giving us yet another very baffled and idiotic female protagonist, who has no idea whatsoever going on in her life, in front [...]

  • Suspenseful enjoyable thriller from Clare Mackintosh I ve read all 3 of her books now and have enjoyed them all very much my favorite is still I Let You Go I had some theories throughout this one that ended up being accurate and a few others that did not , so the OMG twists kind of lost some of their punch there on me, but didn t take away from the story overall, which I found to be very well done I look forward to Mackintosh s fourth book I received an advance copy All opinions are my own.

  • There s a lot I could say about this book, but Raymond Carver already said it best I hate tricks At the first sign of a trick or gimmick in a piece of fiction, a cheap trick or even an elaborate trick, I tend to look for cover Tricks are ultimately boring, and I get bored easily, which may go along with my not having much of an attention span But extremely clever chi chi writing, or just plain tomfoolery writing, puts me to sleep Raymond Carver, Fires Essays, Poems, StoriesMackintosh tries to be [...]

  • In some books, the reader has to make certain assumptions for the ultimate thriller experience Mackintosh expertly leads the reader to these assumptions in her story of a young woman and the suicide of her parents What if you couldn t believe that your parents committed suicide Who would listen Mental illness and domestic violence are two serious issues addressed with an unnamed narrator There are plenty of twists and turns right up to the very last sentence.Copy provided by the Publisher and Ne [...]

  • What a bloody rollercoaster Let Me Lie is.It s a year since Anna Johnson s mother committed suicide, just a few short months after, and in the exact same way, Anna s father, Tom, had taken his life too Both choosing to jump off the cliff at a local suicide spot.Anna is now living with her boyfriend and their baby daughter and she is emotionally scared Every day she is experiencing things that she thought she would have her mother there to support her through and she is slowly falling apart Becom [...]

  • 3.5 stars New mom Anna Johnson has lost her father to suicide One year later to the day, her mother took her own life as well Since then, Anna has been struggling to care for her infant daughter, to be a loving woman to her partner Mark, and to get on with her life without the panic that controls her When the anniversary comes around, she starts to receive clues that maybe her parents did not carry out the heinous crime that everyone believed they committed While piecing together the clues and w [...]
