  • Nordhoff and Hall, who later wrote Mutiny on the Bounty , first broke on the scene with this book, fictionalizing their time in the Lafayette Escadrille in WWI This book took me on many flights of fancy through my teen years, a book I d return to over and over The cover alone I ll have to shoot it and enclose it here demanded that I go out and spend too many allowances on airplane models

  • I first read this when I was in the 6th grade, probably along about 1969 or so It was the begining of a lifelong interest in the First World War It took me a long time to get my own copy as it s been out of print for years, but thanks to the internet I finally did It holds a special place in my book collection and is, and always has been my favorite read.
