  • Thriller set in CYPRUS .e book is a great page turner This review first appeared on our blog tripfiction thriller sThe Evolution of Fear is the second in the Clay Straker series by Paul Hardisty It carries on where The Abrupt Physics of Dying set in Yemen left off but also works perfectly well as a stand alone read The third book in the series, a prequel to the other two called Reconciliation of the Dead and set in Angola, will be published later this year.Paul is an author with a conscience and [...]

  • Wow, just wow I absolutely loved The Evolution of Fear I m still thinking about it days later I haven t actually gotten around to reading The Abrupt Physics of Dying yet, but I ve started it and I m definitely intrigued In saying that, The Evolution of Fear can easily be read as a standalone if necessary. You know you re on to a winner when the cover quote is by Lee Child, and he s not wrong Clay Straker is a brilliant character So well written, and so engaging, it s difficult not to root for Cla [...]

  • I had an advance copy of this book form the publisher.I don t review a great many thrillers, so I m stepping a bit outside my comfort zone with this good I have though found that the recent ones I ve seen from Orenda have all been cracking reads, so I ll take the risk I apologise in advance to any avid thriller readers who are be tempted to shake their heads at something below and say duh, it s a thriller, that s supposed to happen Let s begin, then, as we must, with the setup. It s 1994 Clay Str [...]

  • A long time back, about the time I started book reviewing, I asked the publisher s Orenda Press for a copy of Paul E Hardisty first novel, The Abrupt Physics of Dying The publisher asked if I wanted to wait to receive a hard copy or get a PDF straight away Stupidly I chose the PDF, which I found hard to convert to read on my Kindle Due to this I found it didn t flow as I liked and while I gave the book a four star review, I made a comment about Hardisty writing too well , meaning that he used lo [...]

  • d now to the MediterraneanThis is the second thriller which features the character, Clay Straker The first is called The Abrupt Physics of Dying Catchy eh Some books in a series can be read separately without losing anything by doing so In this case it would add to your enjoyment by knowing some of the background Evolution of Fear continues with Rania as the love interest The action is set in UK and in and around Turkey and Cyprus where unscrupulous characters are trying to make billions by dri [...]

  • The Evolution of Fear is the follow up novel to The Abrupt Physics of Dying I hadn t read the first one due to time issues and while I would recommend doing so, I could still follow and enjoy this novel very much Clay goes on the run when he arrives back at the cottage where he has been in hiding to find men who turn out to be killers waiting for him He knows there is a price on his head and also that the woman he loves, Rania, is also in danger He has to leave England to try and protect her but [...]

  • I loved Paul E Hardisty s first book, The Abrupt Physics of Dying, when I read it last year Often when you enjoy a book that much, you worry the second in the series won t do it justice That dreaded second book syndrome But, actually, The Evolution of Fear is another stunning read You could probably read it as a standalone But I would still suggest buying The Abrupt Physics of Dying first why read one amazing book, when you can read two The Evolution of Fear overlaps genres, as do many of the am [...]

  • I absolutely couldn t put this book down When I was one chapter in I realised that I had read the Abrupt Physics of Dying mainly set in Yemen , which was the previous book to this one Great characters, gripping story line, just loved this book.

  • Clay arched his back, lined up the man s head, and with every joule of energy he could summon, whipped his neck forward.Clay s forehead made contact with the man s nose The cartilage collapsed as if it were raw cauliflower Just shy of three months after the events The Abrupt Physics of Dying and Paul E Hardisty s Clay Straker is again fighting for his life within paragraphs of the start of The Evolution of Fear.Since The Abrupt Physics Clay has been in hiding there s a price on his head and he s [...]

  • Last year I read The Abrupt Physics of Dying, book one in Paul E Hardisty s Clay Straker series and it was absolutely brilliant so I could not wait for the next book to come The Evolution of Fear has now arrived and it has completely blown The Abrupt Physics of Dying out of the water Chillingly good, it s an action packed feast of a novel with gruesomely descriptive prose, roaring tension right from page one and a breath taking, gripping plot from start to finish Clay is a wanted man, with event [...]

  • This is the second book featuring Clay Straker the first being The Abrupt Physics of Dying which was short listed for the CWA John Creasy New Blood Dagger in 2015 The third book, Reconciliation of the Dead, will be published by Orenda Books in 2017.I m embarrassed to admit that I haven t read The Abrupt Physics of Dying what a super title but I will be adding it to my ever growing, ever teetering TBR pile So this was my first introduction to the dynamic Clay Straker He is a hero and a half, goin [...]

  • Clay Straker, star of The Abrupt Physics of Dying, returns in a second outing from Paul Hardisty My recollections of the first book was of an action packed environmental thriller which took the reader to exotic locations So when The Evolution of Fear opened in the South of England I was slightly surprised No need for worry though as the action seemed to kick in from the first page and soon Mr Straker was off on his travels once again.I always do the housekeeping when I cover a returning characte [...]

  • The Evolution of Fear is the second novel in the Clay Straker series I haven t actually read the first book in the series which is called The Abrupt Physics of Dying but certainly would like to after reading the second book.In my own opinion I found it quite easy to read this book as a stand alone though do think it would probably be beneficial for most readers to have read the other one first.Due to the story line I found The Evolution of Fear quite fast paced It felt very much like a game of c [...]

  • The second Clay Straker novel is a high octane read, tempered with poetic language which describes war scenes, fights, flights, sex, the plight of the turtles in the Mediterranean Whilst this can be enjoyed as a standalone, I d recommend reading the first in the series first The Abrupt Physics of Dying as this sets up an understanding of Clay s backstory and that of the other main characters too Apart from the thrill of the story and the poetic storytelling, Paul Hardisty has a fabulous knack of [...]

  • First of all a warning Do not read this book before reading The Abrupt Physics of Dying Clay Straker 1 This book is direct continuation of the 1st one in the series Frankly I think it both book should have been one.The 1st book was great, the second one looks good, but for some reason lack of time I couldn t connect with the later Again it is an endless pursuit of the bad guys after the good guy and the good guy after his lover and their enemy.I thought it best to put the book aside for later r [...]
