Seventeen years was not enough time for my immortal soul to forget the stench of war My next life had already begun but while it was still in it s infancy, again I heard the message my father plied upon the mortals Again words of peace and love and brotherhood reached my bitter ears.Again I was compelled to meet The Messenger. The year was 1962 The place was Albany, GeorSeventeen years was not enough time for my immortal soul to forget the stench of war My next life had already begun but while it was still in it s infancy, again I heard the message my father plied upon the mortals Again words of peace and love and brotherhood reached my bitter ears.Again I was compelled to meet The Messenger. The year was 1962 The place was Albany, Georgia I told myself I would not be drawn into this mission I only wished to see if this was my father s hand at work What I found was a chance to redeem myself to one I d wronged many ages ago the only soul I d ever met in than one lifetime And I embraced that chance That small redemption meant so much that I even agreed to uphold The Messenger But there is no limit to the cruelty of my existence. Now I only wish to forget.

I am a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey I was born and raised in New Jersey so I am very much a city slicker I moved to Florida to marry my sweetheart after college and marveled at how little there was to do and how much one had to drive to do it But due to a job change and an abrupt move, we settled in Austin Texas where the motto is Keep Austin Weird and I try my best to uphold it I am the mother of 2 great kids and though writing has always been a pursuit I was interested in, being a Mommy got in the way for quite a few years I decided I would give it a fair shake in 2009 and I haven t been able to quit since I have 7 novels, a book of short stories, and 2 novellas available I also have 10 additional started novels in various stages of gestation I have a hard time stopping my ideas and when a seemingly great idea hits me typically just as I am attempting to fall asleep I am compelled to start an outline. My 2 great talents are 1 My remarkable ablilty to remember names which has served me well.2 My ability to remember lyrics from every song I ever heard in the 70 s and 80 s which has not helped me in the slightest.I have a quirky sense of humor and sometimes TV commercials crack me up.I like the notion of things being meant to be or somehow touched by the unexplainable I also like the effect music has on one s state of mind and the memories a song can recall.

  • In an era filled with tension, the quest for inner spiritual peace amidst the racial and political issues of the day, one man will desperately search for redemption from the acts he has committed in the past to another soul Mindy Haig s The Messenger will showcase her bold style and ability to hook her readers with a tale of Sammael, an imperfect child of God as he walks the Earth s plane What sins is Sammael looking to atone for As he struggles with his inner demons, a woman with demons of her [...]

  • Though this book is slightly out of my comfort zone, I must say it s unique and very touching Mindy Haig s rendition of Sammael definitely captured my attention What I appreciated is that the story is written in the first person and we are in Sammael s head The author has chosen the setting and the main characters I mean, The Reverend and Sammael for this story in an excellent way I m now looking forward to reading Glory My overall book rating 4.5 stars 4 stars and 5 stars. Many thanks to the aut [...]

  • I loved this novella very much It is told from the pov of an Angel named Sammael, and is telling why he wants his memory removed of his time in Atlanta and Albany. The book is a love story between Sammael and Delilah They are both damaged in their own ways, but find a way to each other I love how their romance is written, and how Delilah overcomes her fear of relationship s The other person in the book, the Reverend, who he is doesn t matter The thing that matters is Sammaels suspicions of how he [...]

  • This book was so different I was not sure was was happening and who the players were but I was mesmerized and had to keep reading Maybe I should have read Glory first, and maybe now I will.

  • Set in early 1960 s Georgia, The Messenger is a free short story that tells the story of Sammael, an angel cast from Heaven and how he meets and forms a relationship with Delilah, a bi racial activist whose mission is to escape the constant judgement and persecution she faced on a daily basis because of who she was This is a short, but powerful story that revolves around racism and its effects on the people who had to survive it Sammael chased after The Reverend, a character who I believed was b [...]

  • Presented as a prequel to Haig s longer form Glory, The Messenger weaves around the life and presence of Martin Luther King, but in some strange way, refuses to be about him we instead visit with Sammael, the much misunderstood Angel Of Death, in a mortal guise as Carlo Ambrosi Sammael becomes involved with a woman and it is through this relationship that Sammael s dark past is shown to the readers, while Delilah embodies the complicated racial politics of the time. This is not a story about poli [...]

  • As a fan of the mythology that has grown around the Judeo Christian religions, I was quite interested to see what Haig would do with the character of Sammael, who is, in my opinion, one of the fascinating characters of Biblical lore And although this short story is but a taste of the full story, I have to admit that the taste has made me crave about this world that Haig s created around a well known character. The time period this story is set in will immediately be familiar to most readers One [...]

  • The Messenger, Sammael s Lost Memory COMPLETE READ This is such an exceptional read The Messenger is the second book by Haig that that I have read The first, The Wishing Place, was wonderful, but this touching, stunning, well plotted and heart moving The first thing you need to know is that The Messenger takes place in the 1960 s when Martin Luther King Jr is speaking to the masses, and the story revolves around these events.Haig has both touched my heart and spurred my mind She has clearly done [...]

  • For being a short that was originally supposed to be a flashback, this was a great introduction to the novel Glory Which, by the way I am very much so looking forward to reading in the future The introduction to Sammael is interesting and moving However, it isn t overly emotional which allows you to soak the information in and look forward to what is to come The building relationship between Sammael and Delilah shows their craving for reason and their imperfections This is a little glimpse into [...]

  • The Messenger, by Mindy Haig, is one of the most well written books I ve read to date Her style, flow, word choices, and descriptive language just pulls you into Sammael s memories Written from Sammael s POV, the story is an immediate romance between Sammael himself and Delilah, a bi racial woman with copper eyes, who meet at a speaking engagement of Dr Martin Luther King JR though he goes unnamed in the book The struggles of racial inequality, Delilah s difficulties in understanding where she b [...]

  • This is a short story prequel to my upcoming novel, Glory While chronologically the action in this story predates Glory, it was actually written after Glory was complete, as it was intended to be part of the sequel, Forsaken I sort of just ran with the story, and it turned out to be quite long for a flashback, and it would have lost too much of it s emotion if it had been trimmed enough for inclusion in the book so I decided to keep it as it was and offer it as a free introduction to the story o [...]

  • The Messenger is a must read There s a lot of preaching which I am not a fan of but there was something else Something so much I can t figure out what to call it but it is that very something that makes this book so fascinating It was so hard to put down I even fought to fall asleep because the book just begged to be read I as so moved from this memory of Sammael My heart was broken in the end but the entire book was so enlightening This is truly a great novella, perfect for everyone.

  • This book is centered in the 1960 s when equal rights for everyone was being protested for This memory of Sammael s is about meeting with Delilah, who s soul he recognizes from many many moons ago I very much enjoyed this and I am looking forward to jumping into Glory

  • I received this book from Rose s Book Snobs in exchange for an honest reviewThe Messenger is the story of Sammael s lost memory Sammael is drawn to Albany, Georgia, to see the Reverend and hear is message While there, he meets Delilah, a young woman that follows the Reverend This story is set in the 60 s and touches on the hardships of segregation It also follows Sammael s relationship with Delilah. This was a good short story and prequel to Glory I enjoyed the interactions between the characters [...]
